Good morning, I would like to know to which specific Service Canada location we have to go to apply in person for a Health Card in the city of Toronto (we are living downtown). I have a 2 year work permit and my wife has one too.

Thanks for your quick reply

Hello there,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You can find some detailed instructions in our Settlement.Org How do I apply for a Health Card (OHIP)? article.

You should get an application form online or from your local Service Ontario OHIP Office.

Use the ServiceOntario Service Finder to find the closest one to where you are located.

You will see that it will pull up a listing of offices. In each listed office, it will indicate which services are provided at the office.

Make sure that the office you select that is closest to you provides services related to OHIP.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hi Anna,

This isn't correct. If the person seeking an OHIP card is not a PR, they have to go to 777 Bay St. in Toronto. Found out the hard way after going to the one by Trinity Bellwoods and waiting in line for 15 minutes.

Hello there,

Thank you very much for your feedback and for updating on this.

I am terribly sorry that because of this information provided you had to go somewhere else erroneously and waste your time.

I sincerely apologize for not providing a better referral. As we say in the Information and Referral Field, "A bad referral is worse than no referral".

This updated information you have provided is very helpful to me so that I can adjust my response in relation to Work Permits.

It is also very helpful to other users.

I have found this information on the Service Ontario website - Apply for an Ontario health card in Person - Service Finder,

If your document from Citizenship and Immigration Canada is a Temporary Resident Permit or a Work Permit (Employment Authorization) that says valid until or issued until a specific date, you must go to a ServiceOntario centre that provides the full suite of health card services.

Thanks again for this update.

Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
