HI ,

I left Canada in 2001 to Hong Kong and want to return back in 2019 Sept because of my kids education . I don't have anything in Canada and I only keep Canadian passport , My driving license , ontario health card were expired in 2002 . I did not use any service during in Canada during this period , but only passport service ,

I did not declare non residency in 2001 ( I did not know ) .

What will happen when I return to Canada ?

Do I need to pay tax from 2002 to Canada ?

How do l declare my asset if I return to Canada ?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

Regarding your question about paying taxes, you may want to contact the Canada Revenue Agency once you arrive or even from abroad.

You can find some contact phone numbers on the Canada Revenue Agency website in the Telephone numbers – Canada Revenue Agency section.

Regarding declaring your assets when returning to Canada, you can find some information on the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) website in the I Declare: A guide for residents returning to Canada section.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
