Hi,
I hold a Permanent Residence status (under the skilled worker category) since 2010. I was employed by a very good & big corporation prior to my first successful PR renewal 4 years ago.

I continued to work for the same company briefly and left the firm to complete a Project MAnagement certification via self-study. Ever since obtaining a PMI certification, I have been running an international business(sole proprietorship) in Canada.

I have recently come across an article that indicated that I will need a corporation instead of sole proprietorship to renew my PR card. I am wondering if someone more experience here would know if this is in fact true. I am about to renew my PR card again next year and I want to make sure that I meet all the requirements to renew it.

Thank you.

Hello Jeremy,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in finding out what your options are in this situation.

It is generally recommended that you do not try to renew a PR card until you have met your residency requirements.

We suggest that you may want to confirm this information and receive information based on your own situation by contacting the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Call Centre directly at:

1-888-242-2100 (In Canada Only)

Please note, you do not have to provide any of your contact or identifying information in order to ask a general question.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
