Hi everyone,

I am newly landed immigrant with PR status and need to wait 3 months until my health card will be issued.

I have been taking daily medication for chronic disease for last 3 years(hypertension and epilepsy) and still to cover 2 weeks.

How can I do without the health card to renew prescription and get the refill for those medicines ?

Any option to get financial coverage or partial refund for the medicine cost ?

Thanks all for your help in advance.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

Unfortunately, we are unable to recommend a health insurance provider over another. However, you can find some information in our Settlement.Org Where can I buy private health insurance for newcomers and visitors to Canada? article. Please note that most insurers do not insure for pre-existing conditions.

In this case, you may want to try and contact the nearest Community Health Centre to see if they have any information regarding other options.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
