Hi,
My 9 yo son was born in Canada and holds a Canadian passport. He has lived the last 8 years in Australia with his Australian parents (I was in Canada on a work permit when he was born).
We would like to return to Canada for 6 months on a tourist visa. Is my son eligible to attend school and what if any, would be the fees?
Thanks for your help

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your family's situation with us.

We can appreciate that you would be interested in this type of information.

In terms of who pays fees when attending public elementary or secondary school in Ontario, it generally does not apply to Canadian Citizens.

You can find some examples of the guidelines and requirements in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Admission Eligibility Operational Procedure Guideline document.

You may want to contact the Ministry of Education for some additional information and to find out if they can provide you with some detailed information regarding your options in this type of situation and the school board serving the school where you are interested in having your child attend.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello,

The age of majority is 18 in six provinces: Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
Public elementary education and secondary schools are free of charge.
Expect to pay fees for college and university programs.
Contact a school board for more details:

Thank you
Lahbib
