I am from Ontario but currently a legal resident of Alberta and own an home and a car here. I have health card and drivers licsence...

I also own a home in Ontario and a car. I commute back and forth often as most of my family lives in Ontario.
My insurance company, which is the same company in both provinces, keep requesting i get an Ontario Drivers lic but then if I do that, will that trigger my residence change to Ontario?

In both provinces I have no issues renewing, or purchasing vehicles.

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You may find helpful information in the Settlemetn.Org article, I have a driver's licence from another province in Canada. How do I get an Ontario driver's licence?

For information specific to your situation, you may want to direct your question to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, the MTO is the government department that controls driver's licences and vehicle registration in Ontario. Here is their contact information:

In Ontario: 1-800-387-3445
In Toronto: 416-235-2999
TTY: 1-866-471-8929

We hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,

Your Settlement.Org Team
