Hello:
I am new to renting out my basement and my tenant asked for me to pay for the silicone to put in the bathroom.
Is this normal that landlords pay for this small things?

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us.

You may find helpful information in the Settlement.Org article, What can I do if the place I rent needs repairs? Here is an excerpt:
Your landlord is responsible for repairs in all types of rental housing. This includes repairs to heating, plumbing, electricity and appliances that come with the apartment (for example stoves, refrigerators).

You can also report problems with your landlord to the Landlord and Tenant Board. This board can order your landlord to:
  • Do the repair.
  • Pay you back for doing the repair yourself.
  • Give you back some of your rent for the time the repair was not done.
  • Let you move out without giving proper notice.

You cannot refuse to pay your rent because a repair is not made. You may wish to contact a legal clinic or housing help centre for assistance and more information. To find help in your area, visit our Services Near Me section.

We hope this information is helpful, please follow up with us if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Your Settlement.Org team
