2/14/2016 Topic: Validity of my PR card MelM	There have been no changes to PR residency rules or PR cards. You must still live in Canada for 2 out of every 5 rolling years to keep your PR status. No - PR is not 6 years now. Since you are far from meeting the residency requirement to retain your PR status, you should avoid travel outside of Canada and remain in Canada until you have spent 2 out of the last five years in the country. Then you can renew your PR card and travel outside of Canada. If you travel outside of Canada without meeting the residency requirement, then you will risk losing your PR status. You are confusing PR rules and citizenship rules. Citizenship rules recently changed to four years out of six.
2/18/2016 Topic: Parents and then In-Laws Sponsoring MelM	You are financially responsible for your parents for 10 years after they land. This means that if you want to now sponsor your in-laws, you need to meet the LICO amount for 6 people (you, your wife, your parents, your wife's parents) + any children you may have. If you don't have sufficient income for the last three years to meet LICO, then your parents would have to officially apply to give up their PR status in order for your LICO requirements to be refuced by two people.
2/25/2016 Topic: Sponsorship - Failure to Disclose Dependent MelM	If you want to pursue this and have any chance of success, I would very strongly recommend you hire a good immigration lawyer with experience in these types of appeals. You should budget $5K+ for these services. Good luck.
2/25/2016 Topic: New Baby Born outside Canada to PRs MelM	You cannot apply for your child's PR outside of Canada. Either you or your wife must be in Canada to submit the application. To bring your child to Canada before your child has PR - you can try applying for a TRV. If the TRV is not approved then you can try applying for a TRP. If the TRP is also refused then one of you will have to travel to Canada alone to sponsor the child and remain there while the application is processed - while the other parent remains in your home country with your child.

3/6/2016 Topic: PR card Renewal before Expiry MelM	You must wait until after July 2, 2107 to apply. You cannot apply before you meet the residency requirement. If you apply before you have 730 days of residency - then you will be refused. You cannot sign and submit your renewal application to CIC until after you have met the residency requirement.

3/31/2016 Topic: Who can Co-Sign? MelM	It depends who you are sponsoring. If you are sponsoring your spouse or common law partner, then no one can co-sign. If you are sponsoring a parent / grandparent - then only your spouse or common law partner can co-sign. Parents cannot co-sign.
4/1/2016 Topic: CCTB if Child is Staying Abroad - Questions MelM	1. Yes - you can. 2. You will need to apply to extend his visitor status every six months. 3. Yes - you must sponsor him for PR. 4. No - he cannot use his health card while in Canada as a visitor. He will need to become a PR again first before he will be able to use OHIP.
4/2/2016 Topic: Sponsoring a dependent child MelM	Since the child was not medically examined as part of your application, he/she can unfortunately never be sponsored by you. The child will have to immigrate independently once he/she is an adult and meets the criteria for immigrating. In the meantime, you could look into a study permit provided you can find a school that will accept the child and are able to pay foreign student tuition fees.
4/4/2016 Topic: Health Card MelM	I and my wife reside in Nigeria but are planning to have our first baby in Canada. I will like to know if we are qualified for any insurance in Canada and if not can I get a private health insurance company. If not how much does it cost for child delivery. I assume your wife is not a Canadian citizen and not a Canadian permanent resident. Assuming the above is correct, the birth and any pre-birth test and doctors visits will not be covered by Canada's health care system. There are some insurance policies that cover some of the costs of giving birth - however you would have to purchase this insurance before your wife is pregnant. If yoru wife is already pregnant or if you for some reason cannot purchase insurance, then you should budget $7K to $10K for the birth. Note that the costs can be significantly higher if there are any complications. Your wife will need to obtain a visitor visa to come to Canada. If CIC suspects she will be using the visitor visa to come to Canada to give birth, then the visa will be refused. Also, even if the visa is approved, this doesn't guarantee entry to Canada. If your wife arrives in Canada and is visibly pregnant, it's possible she could be turned away and sent home on the next flight.
4/11/2016 Topic: How to Sponsor Family Members MelM	There are income requirements you would have to meet to sponsor a qualifying relative. If you are on ODSP, you won't meet these income requirements and unfortunately cannot sponosor any relatives at this time. If they wish to immigrate, they will have to qualify on their own. If you were to stop taking ODSP and get a job that meets the sponsorship income requirements, then you might be able to sponsor youir half sister (you cannot sponsor your cousin). To sponsor your half sister you will have to meet all of these requirements: have no spouse / common law partner, have no children, both of your parents are deceased, have no family members in Canada (i.e. no siblings, aunts, uncles, etc.).
4/12/2016 Topic: No OHIP. Pregnant. Applying for PR Inland. MelM	Unfortunately we have seen OHIP refuse many applicants who have an OWP as a result of the OWP spousal sponsorship pilot but don't yet have AIP. OHIP has been demanding that applicants have AIP before coverage is approved. Having said that - some people have gotten lucky. So by all means try. Also, if you are refused - you can try appealing. I would have a "plan B" in place in the event you cannot get OHIP coverage. One way to reduce the costs you have to pay is to have a home birth with the assistance of a midwife. Good luck.
4/14/2016 Topic: Repayment of ODSP Benefits - Default MelM	Unfortunately you cannot be approved as a sponsor if you are in default on a previous sponsorship. You will need to address the default before you can submit the application to sponsor your husband's daughters.
4/18/2016 Topic: Sponsoring New Husband MelM	You will have to wait three years from the time your first husband landed in Canada and became a PR before you will be able to submit an application to sponsor your new spouse. So if he landed in 2014 - it will be sometime in 2017 before you can sponsor again.
