Need to Renew my PR card - Please Help

Hello Kathrin,

Thanks for sharing your situation with us and for including the details of your circumstances.

According to a CIC representative, it could cause processing delays if you are unable to provide your old passport (showing entry & exits ). This is because they will have to verify whether you have met the residency requirements in another way.

The representative advised that you include strong supporting documentation when you submit your PR Card renewal application, to prove your physical presence in Canada during this time period.

This could be pay stubs, bank statements, utility bills, credit card bills (they are interested in where you made purchases, not what you bought), cell phone bills, etc.

We suggest that it is best to get more information on your specific situation by contacting the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Applying for Citizenship while outside Canada

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation in such detail and your questions.

According to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre, they stated that it is not possible to apply for citizenship while living outside Canada.

We suggest that you confirm this information for yourself by contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada or the nearest Canadian Visa Office.

We have had some of our users previously state that they have been able to contact CIC from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to CIC. Once you choose the option for CIC, wait until you hear the welcome to Citizenship and Immigration Canada message and wait to be connected to the CIC Call Centre.

Please note though that some have reported that it did not work for them. We hope that it is possible for you to get through.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

According to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre, if you do not have an Option C Print Out, then you should include a letter stating and explaining in detail why you do not have one. This should be included in your application.

Since you are also residing abroad, as stated in this Settlement.Org How do I sponsor a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, or dependent child living outside of Canada? article,

If you are a Canadian citizen not residing in Canada, you may sponsor your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner and/or dependent children who have no dependent children of their own.

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

We suggest that you may want to contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly for some additional information specific to your own situation.

You can also find some additional information on the CIC Website in the Will I get my permanent resident card by mail?section.

Here is an excerpt,

Most permanent residents in Canada replacing or renewing their PR card will receive it by mail.

Travelling using Passport from Country of Origin

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You can find some information on some options that may be available to you in our Settlement.Org Do I really need a PR card to travel back to Canada? article.

In terms of applying for a Travel Document, you need to apply for a permanent resident travel document from a Canadian visa office abroad.

You can also find some detailed information on the CIC Website.

Here is an excerpt,

If you plan to return in a commercial vehicle, like a plane or bus

If you plan to return to Canada in a commercial vehicle — such as a plane, train, boat or bus — you must apply for a travel document at a visa office outside Canada before you return to Canada.

You should also check with the commercial operator (for example, the airline or bus company you will be using) to see what documents they need.

If you return in a private vehicle, like your own car

If you return to Canada in a private vehicle, such as your own car, you do not need a PR card. You can use your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688) instead.

You would have been given these documents:

-if you applied from overseas: at the same time as your visa, or
-if you applied from within Canada at your local visa office when you landed.

An officer will ask you questions to make sure you meet all of the residency requirements before they allow you to come back to Canada.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
