12/23/2015 Topic: Can I Sponsor an Adult Sibling with a Disability? MelM	Unfortunately sponsorship isn't possible. There are a number of barriers. First of all, you don't qualify to sponsor your sibling if your parents are still alive and if you have any other family members in Canada (your spouse and children). Secondly, even if you were single and were able to sponsor your sibling, there's a high chance the sponsorship process would be refused since it's quite likely CIC would decide that your sibling would place a burden on Canada's health care and social care systems. H&C is only an option if the individual is already in Canada. So unfortunately not an option for your sibling.
12/25/2015 Topic: Re-Application of Citizenship After Renunciation. MelM	If you renounce your citizenship then you will have to apply for permanent residency before you can return to Canada to live (you won't be able to become a citizen again directly). Once you've lived in Canada long enough after becoming a PR, you'll be able to apply to be a citizen again. Before you renounce your Canadian citizenship you may want to read through the rules for applying for permanent residency to understand what it takes and if you would even qualify (it's not a simple process): http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

1/4/2016 Topic: Sponsoring Parents - Financial Situation MelM	No - their financial situation has no bearing on a PR sponsorship application. No - their resources will not be considered as supplementary to your income. You have to meet the income requirements on your own (your spouse/common law partner can co-sign). Note that if you are planning to sponsor your parents in 2016 - the application cap was reached in a day and a half last year. If you haven't already submitted your application - it's too late for this year and you'll have to wait until 2017.
1/4/2016 Topic: Ohip Coverage for Long Term Absence and Pregnant MelM	Were you physically in Canada for at least 153 days out of the last 12 months? You need to meet this residency requirement in order to keep OHIP coverage without interruption. If you've been out of Canada for a year and a half straight, you are no longer covered by OHIP and will have to go through the three month waiting period to qualify under the program again.
1/5/2016 Topic: Ontario Residency Rules MelM	1) The live you spend living and working outside of Canada cannot be counted towards the residency obligation. It will be counted as time outside of Canada. Note that you must live in Canada for 2 out of every 5 rolling years to keep your PR status. 2) This will allow your family to meet the residency obligation and keep their PR status valid - but not you. You will still have to meet the 2 out of every 5 year residency obligation on your own to keep your PR status.
1/7/2016 Topic: Can my child Sponsor me in this case? MelM	Your child cannot sponsor you at this time. Your child will be able to sponsor you once he/she is an adult and has worked in Canada for three years making sufficient income to meet the minimum income requirements for sponsoring a parent. If you wish to immigrate to Canada, you will have to qualify and apply for permanent residency independently through an economic immigration stream like Federal Skilled Worker / Express Entry or one of the Provincial Nominee program. Unfortunately having a Canadian citizen child does not entitle you to move to or live in Canada.
1/8/2016 Topic: Does it matter if Marital Status Changes? MelM	Yes - it certainly matters. If you get married after you receive the visa but before you land in Canada - you must return your visa and notify your visa office that you are now married. You must also submit all of the required paperwork to add your spouse to your file (including medical and police certificates). Once the visa office has reviewed your spouse's paperwork, they will issue a new PR visa to both of you. Failure to report your marriage and add your spouse to your application will have two consequences: (1) you will never be able to sponsor your spouse for PR; (2) you will be committing misrepresentation by landing as a single individual when you are in fact married which can result in your PR status being revoked.
1/19/2016 Topic: What is the process time for inland sponsorship? MelM	Processing times are currently around 27 months for inland applications. At this time the Liberals have not officially announced any changes or improvements to these processing times. So it's difficult to guess if you can expect anything to change - and if so, by how much. You'll have to wait for the Liberals to officially announce any changes they are implementing to immigration procedures to see if there's going to be any benefit for your application.

1/29/2016 Topic: Need Advice regarding Undeclared Child MelM	Since your partner failed to declare you in the application, neither you nor the child can be sponsored by your husband. If you want to come to Canada, you will have to qualify independently under an economic immigration stream and include the children as dependents.
2/4/2016 Topic: Can they get a Visitor Visa for their Newborn? MelM	If the TRV has already been refused - then they should try applying for a TRP. If the TRP is also refused, then one of them will have to travel to Canada to submit the sponsorship application and remain in Canada while the application is processed. The other parent can stay back in their home country with the baby.
2/10/2016 Topic: Can Business Trip be counted as Residence Days? MelM	Business trips cannot be counted towards the residency requirement. Your husband should wait until he has at least 730 residency days in the last five years before he submits the application to renew his PR card.
2/11/2016 Topic: Permanent Resident Travel Document MelM	It's too early to be expecting your PR cards. Current processing times are sitting at around 75 days and that doesn't factor in mailing. There is no point calling or contacting CIC regarding this issue. Your cards aren't late. Travel document processing times vary from country to country. I would count on a week processing time minimum. Yes - they will need his passport.
2/11/2016 Topic: Sponsorship - Failure to Disclose Dependent MelM	The child is now an adult and would have to qualify and apply for PR independently through an economic class like Express Entry / Federal Skilled Worker or one of the Provincial Nomination streams.
