We applied March 10 2014
CIC received our application and started processing on April 16 2014. Also sent us copy of Discover Canada Study Guide.
Status of our application on CIC online application checker is "In Process"
Looking forward to invitation to take the citizenship exam

Yes you can call Dec 24, I just did earlier today. Not sure of Dec 27 however.
