Problems with my Ontario Works Caseworker
Annemi
|
Hello there,
I also have been in a same situation. What I learned, and what I actually did is that I complained in writing about almost everything that my caseworker said or did. Every time my application for something was declined by the PW office, I sat at the OW office computers and wrote a complain.
Since my caseworker never gave her reasons for denying my benefits in writing, I always restated our conversation in writing, outlining what were my needs and reasons for them, the fact that my needs were denied, that I asked for written explanations and they were denied, too. Finally I complained about my caseworker, and the OW replaced her. )))
Do always, ALWAYS apply to satisfy your needs in writing. Appeal every deny! |

Invited Someone to Visit - They Applied for Asylum
Annemi
|
Hello there,
Recently I sent a letter of invitation to a relative to visit me in Canada, mentioning that I will provide her with a place to stay, and will pay for her expenses while she is in Canada.
Now she arrived and, being a temporary visitor, wants to apply for asylum in Canada. She also wants to apply for an income assistance in Canada after she is found eligible for making a refugee application.
My concern is whether I as a Canadian inviting person will be held liable for her social assistance and other benefits? I never signed any sponsorship or other similar financial undertakings for her. Just a letter of invitation saying that I am paying for her stay and food.
Thank you! |

TTC Reimbursement for ESL Classes - Questions
Annemi
|
Hello there,
I am a refugee claimant, and recently started my ESL classes. It takes me a bus ride to go there.
One of my friends took a government sponsored language teaching program that reimbursed them the cost of the TTC tickets to go to the classes. They just have to collect their TTC tickets and transfers, and they filed them for a reimbursement.
I am an elderly person, and my means are really limited. I would walk to my English class but it is just a bit too far for me to walk. This I have to take a bus to go for my classes.
Could you please find out whether there is a reimbursement of transportation for my ESL classes? So far, I save my tickets.
Thank you! |

How can I get my IFHP document?
Annemi
|
Good morning,
As a Refugee Claimant, I received my Refugee Protection Claimant Document that says I am eligible for Interim Federal Health Program. I received information from CIC that says I must sign my IFHP eligibility document as soon as I receive it. My understanding is that I have to apply for this additional document, is that correct?
I called the CIC Call centre 1-888-242-2100 several times, however, the automatic call forwarding options do not include anything about the IFHP or related to it.
The information said that Medavie Blue Cross is involved. I emailed them for any information but they replied that they serve the service providers only, and referred me to the same useless phone number.
Could you please inform me on how do I apply for my IFHP document, and how do I actually use it in case I have to see a doctor? Can I see a doctor of my choice?
Thank you! |

Can an ON doctor refuse to take my IFHP insurance?
Annemi

Hello, I am insured under the Interim Federal Health Program. My family doctor referred me to a specialist who speaks my language.
I brought my health insurance and the forms to the doctor, and asked him to accept my insurance. However, the doctor's office refused to take my insurance, told me that "this insurance is too burdensome", and demanded cash for the treatment. I had to pay since I was afraid of consequences.
The amount is really huge for me. I have heard that all Ontario doctors have to accept the IFHP insurance, and to bill the Medavie Blue Cross insurance for services before demanding cash from a patient.
Could you please inform whether this is true, or not? Is this a doctor's duty to accept my insurance?
I could not find this information by myself. Thank you so much in advance! |
