Hello Moderator ,
I had applied for PRC renewal and received letter to pick up the card from CIC office .

During the process i had to leave Canada . can i return via the US land border using shuttle / BUS / taxi / rental car .

i am aware of CIC website re. private car , but does it really make difference for CIC if I managed to arrive using any of mentioned above.

I really appreciate you put more light on this matter .

Can my friend courier my PR card to me abroad?

Hello Anna,

Thanks for sharing the information. I called CIC today to get the confirmation on the policy. CIC agent said to me that it is illegal for a third person to carry a PR card outside the country. I am not sure if the agent was properly trained on all the policies but he was very clear in his response and advised me to use PRTD to enter the country.

As I am also in the same boat, I would like to know if there is a link or written response from CIC which clearly states that it is not illegal to the send the PR card outside the country using the secure method e.g. carrying by third party(friend or relative). This issue is creating confusion due to contradicting responses, so it would be helpful if you could provide more information on it for newly landed permanent residents :).

Thanks for all your help.

Hello Masum,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this.

As stated above, the information we have received from Citizenship and Immigration is that no, it is not illegal to send it via a secure method or with someone else. However, they stated that there exists the possibility that it be seized if found.

Unfortunately, this is all the information we have regarding this.

You may also want to contact a lawyer who is familiar with Canadian Immigration issues for some additional information.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

your friend or relative can carry your cards without any problem . there is no doubt about it.

using courier is still possible , but depends on customs .
i had mailed my home country ID to my friend for process in home country and there was no issue whatsoever in customs

Urgent processing of PR card

Hi,
My PR card will expire on 10 Oct 2016 and I will be eligible to apply for PR card renewal on 20 June 2016, when my physical presence in Canada will be accumulated to 735 days.

I have to fly outside Canada on 24 August 2016 (the date when my present PR card will remain valid) and I want to return to Canada on 25 October 2016, when my current PR card will be expired.

I would like to get my new PR card before I leave Canada on 24 August 2016, so that I will have a valid PR card when I am returning to Canada on 25 October 2016.

I am planning to apply for urgent processing of my PR card renewal application.

According to my situation,am I eligible to apply for urgent processing of my application? Anybody has any experience like this? Please share and suggest me.

Hanamina

everyone is eligible. you need to book return ticket showing dates you plan to leave and attach proof of payment

Thank you Philippe for your e. mail, Further to my previous Please see the case.

We immigrated to Canada in May 2006 and we did the citizen ship exam on 2011. My wife failed to pass the exam because English Languish.

My Wife left Canada with me on April 2012, we are coming back to Canada in coming summer before her PR expiration (July 2016) for three months.

In the last five years, she has only one year residency. (However, as I mentioned above she lived six years from May 2006 to April 2012 in Calgary).

Is there any issue regarding renewal her PR?

Regards

Abdul

apparently she was accompanying a Canadian citizen and therefore there will be no issue for renewal of PR.

whatever days she resided beyond the 5 years period prior of application shall not be considered anyway

Thank you Moderator for your response below . in addition if under privacy act , we need to receive information on FOSS/GCMS belonging to self and verify what is being recorded by CIC and not from CBSA irrespective to a particular application . can you advise how to file such request from CIC .

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

We have received some information from one of our legal researchers.

If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can make a request to access information from the CBSA by following the link below:

Access to Information and Privacy

You are requesting information under the "Access to Information Act", and the type of records are "Case Files". You are not required to input a Client ID number. At the bottom of the page there is room to explain details of the information you are requesting.

They suggest that you can write something like "“Travel history, file numbers, time periods, notes or records from border agents (including non-computer based notes)."

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
