Canadian Citizen returning to Ontario without OHIP

Hi,
I'm a Canadian citizen who lived abroad for 10 years as a non-resident of Canada. I just moved back to Ontario last week and intend to reside here permanently. Unfortunately because I was not a resident of Ontario for several years, my OHIP healthcard expired. I was told by Service Ontario that as a returning resident, I am subject to the three-month waiting period before my OHIP coverage can begin again.
I was advised to purchase private health insurance coverage for this period, but unfortunately I am unable to find any private health insurance companies that will offer insurance for Canadian citizens who live in Canada but are not covered under provincial health insurance. The only private health insurance plans I have found for new residents in Ontario without OHIP are for non-Canadian citizens.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any advice? Thank you. |
