Hi My date of landing is 28 October 2010. So I became PR on this date but the expiry date of PR card is 29 November, 2015. Should it not be 29 October, 2015 after the passage of 5 years? Also should I cover my 730 days of requirement for reissue of PR till 29 October 2015 or 29 November 2015? Thnaks Talba |

1. The expiry date of the PR is 5 years after the date it was printed. 2. Your 5 year period to count for the Residency Obligation is from 28/10/2015
PMM
Thanks PMM In my opinion too I need to reside in Canada for 730 daysin the period that begins on the day of my landing i.e. 28 October 2010 to 28 October 2015. My PR Card has the expiry date of 29 November 2015. It is strange. The expiry date should have been 5 years after my landing i.e. it should have been 29 October, 2015. I thought that perhaps a grace period of one month is given. It is strange! Talba |

1. As explained you have to reside for 2 years in the 5 years after you date of "landing" to maintain PR status. 2. There is no grace period.

Thanks But it does not resolve the issue. The rule of 5 years I know. My card was printed after a week of my landing i.e. in the first week of November 2010. Then the question still remains: why is the expiry date 29 November 2015. If any expert knows the answer he may kindly furnish it since it does raise the question of span in which the condition of 730 days is to be fulfilled. Thanks |

1, The following statement can't be any clearer.
"Appendix A: Residency obligation Minimum residency obligations
You must meet the residency obligation to obtain a Permanent Resident Card.
If you have been a permanent resident for five (5) years or more
you must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five (5) years.
If you have been a permanent resident for less than five (5) years
you must show that you will be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within five (5) years of the date you became a permanent resident."

Thanks. I very much appreciate the replies to my queries. I would be completing 730 days on 18th May. So I think I can apply for the renewal of PR card on 19th May much before the expiry of 5 year period. Am I right? Another person's 730 days are completed on 1 October. So he can apply only on 2 october although expiry dates of both of our cards are the same. Am I right? |

Expiry Date of PR Card

Hi I would be highly obliged if you can clear a doubt about the expiry date of my PR card. I had become permanent resident on 26 October 2010. After that in 2015 I had got my PR card properly renewed. According to my understanding since I became permanent resident on 26 October, the expiry date should be 26 October 2020. However on card the expiry date is mentioned as 18 December, 2020. I don’t understand it. Please help me in understanding it. Thanks Talba |

Renewing PR Card Second Time

I will be highly obliged for answering the questions dealing with the following situation: My friend became Permanent Resident on November 28, 2010. He spent 1008 days in the period: November 28, 2010 to October 24, 2015 and left Canada on October 24, 2015 after getting his PR card renewed with the expiry date December 26, 2020. He is currently living in India and plans to go back to Canada on January 1, 2020.
His questions are: 1. Will he be permitted to enter Canada on January 1, 2020 ? 2. Will he be permitted to renew again (i.e. for the second time) his PR Card? 3. If he is permitted to renew his PR Card, when can he apply for the renewal? Thanks. |

1. He will be permitted to enter, but there is a very good chance that he will be reported for not meeting his Residency obligations of 2/5 years from Oct/15 to Jan/20, actually he has to return by Oct/18 and remain for 2 years to maintain his PR status. 2. No, as he won't have met his RO, see #1. 3. See, #1 & #2. For an individual who has been a permanent resident for more than 5 years, his residential requirement period is established on the concept of 5 year rolling period and not a pre-fixed 5 year time slot like:2010-15, 2010-2020 etc. That may probably mean that after entering Canada on 1 January, 2020, my friend may let his PR card expire on December 26, 2020 and then apply to renew his PR card on 10 January, 2022, when he has completed in Canada his stay of more than 730 days. The PR Card processing office would then calculate his residency based on that five year period that immediately precedes before the receipt of application (i.e. after 10 January, 2022) for the renewal of PR card. This should meet the residency requirement. And if this is true there should be no problem in getting his PR card renewed. Kindly comment on the validity or otherwise of this possibility. Thanks. |

Rolling Five Years and Renewing PR card

I would very much appreciate if some light is thrown over my confusion. We became permanent resident of Canada on 28th October, 2010. We got our card renewed properly with the expiry date of 24 December, 2020.
Now we plan to land in Canada on 10 September, 2018. Our stay in Canada since 2013 has been as under:
From 23 October 2013 to 15th October, 2015: 670 days.
If now we land in Canada on 10th September, 2018, would we be able to fulfill our permanent residency requirement and be able to renew our PR card in 2020?
Will the rule of rolling five years affect our chances of renewal?
Many Thanks |

If one has to delay returning to Canada in order to take care of a sick parent, what kinds of photos or videos can be shown to the immigration officer at the port of entry to convince him that non fulfilment of the residency requirement was due to taking care of the patient?
