Topic:
Repayment of ODSP Benefits - Default

Hello there,

I am new here and in desperate need of help;

Here is my situation:

I am sponsoring my husband, who has recently got his permanent residence in September of 2016.

I am on O.D.S.P. so when my husband returned back to Canada (he had been gone back to his country of Jamaica as a result of going on refugee status, when his claim was denied. His departure order turned into a deportation order. He was sent back to Jamaica for three and a half years, now he is back as a permanent resident)

I took him in to see my O.D.S.P. worker and she put him on my benefits (as well as submitting an application for him for O.D.S.P.)

He has been on my benefits, and as a result, my basic needs and shelter costs went up.

I did not take my husband to ODSP to put him on my benefits, and he has worked from the day he stepped off the plane in Canada.

My husband and I are terribly upset about this because I got a letter from citizenship and immigration last week which said that I have been found in default of my undertaking because my husband applied for ODSP.

I am afraid of losing my ODSP completely, and I have been to see my ODSP worker and she has told us that she cannot tell us how much we owe back to the government because of this default.

I know this looks bad on both my husband and I, because it looks like I didn't provide for his needs to the point that he applied for ODSP, and that I have been found in default of my undertaking.

My husband wants to sponsor his 2 daughters, we have the sponsorship papers ready to be sent in, but we are not even sure if we should send them in because of this situation we find ourselves in ??? -

Anyone who knows any information about this topic would be so helpful in this stressful time for us.
