Hello,
I need to re-activate my SIN number registered in Ontario.
Enquiries I have taken
I was unpleasantly surprised to find it had been classed dormant. I lost the paper card one many years ago but it was never a problem because I do know it by heart. I turned 67 and wish to apply for any small government pension. I have retired to live overseas now. I am a Canadian citizen. I have a current 10 year Canadian passport. I have an old pink official photocopy of my citizenship dating from about 1966. When I was last in the Service Canada office in Oakville, Ontario just before going overseas and prior to turning 65, some clerk told me I had to produce my landing card, which would have been on my mother's passport, from when I came with my parents to Canada from England when I was 6, to prove my citizenship, seeing I had no citizenship card, only an official photocopy, that he told me was white not pink. Mine is pink. He was not old enough perhaps to recall pink ones. And perhaps may have doubted the authenticity of my Canadian passport.
I called Service Canada and someone told me she had no idea how to reactivate my number. She suggested I contact the High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. An in-country clerk at the High Commission, Kuala Lumpur, told me that I had to call Service Canada again and get correct information because they did not deal with SIN numbers only passports and citizenship papers. Which sounds correct. She said a paper citizenship would take a year or more to get and that it was now white and not a card as I obtained for my daughter.
So how do I re-activate my SIN number, that I have had since I was 16, please from overseas? |
