Vacating my Apartment without Notice to Landlord

My landlord says - per my lease - I must give 2 months notice.
However, I am unable to pay my rent and have voluntarily given up (left) my apartment to allow them free access to rent to another tenant. I have returned the keys to them and I have written them a letter so stating.
My apartment is Assisted Housing, and there is a wait list .. some 6 years long... of needy people in desperate need of housing.
I have asked them to find a replacement tenant, however they still say I must pay rent.
I simply do not have it to give them.
What can I do? |
