Topic: Extension for R1 Possible?

My disabled brother was issued an R1 visa expiring in 6 months.

I am acting as my brother's agent (both our parents passed away).

I would like to ask for validity extension of R1 visa for at least 1 month so we can both observe the traditional 'end of mourning' (Mom passed away in August2018.

Questions

1. Can i ask for R1 extension, keeping in mind R1 visa was issued but not yet used? (my disabled brother is currently outside of Canada right now)

2. How do I go about doing this?. I am currently in Canada

As it stands, I am picking up my disabled brother before the R1 visa expires but will need to go back in August 2019 to observe the 'end of mourning' tradition with the whole family (other siblings will fly back home for this observance).

I am trying to find ways to save my disabled brother the grief and challenges of frequent trips to Canada and back to our parents birth country.
