1. No, if the child is second generation born abroad after 2009, therefor you would have to return to Canada and sponsor the child for Permanent Residence. Once the child is a PR and residing in Canada, you can, as a Canadian citizen, apply for his/her citizenship. Processing times are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp |

How Can I Get a CSQ as a Canadian PR?

Hey all,
I moved to Canada as a federal skilled worker 2 years ago and currently have the Canadian PR. I have lived in Montreal for more than a year. Most of my friends, who immigrate to Quebec with a Certificate du Selection du Quebec (CSQ), told me there are lots of beneifts with a CSQ.
Therefore, I am wondering if it is possible for me to get a CSQ as a Canadian PR already? and How?
Many thanks..

1. No, it is a selection certificate before you emigrate. |

Open work permit wait times

Hi Settlement.org team,
I applied in Canada for permanent residency through spousal sponsorship. My application reached Mississauga on November 8, 2016, and processing officially began November 29, 2016.
I applied for an open work permit at the same time; I put the application in the same envelope. As I understand it, through 2015 and 2016 there was a pilot program in place that allowed spouses to apply for their open work permits concurrently with their PR status so that they can work while their PR application is processed.
I understand that my PR wait time will be 26 months, according to the processing times available through the CIC website. However, I would really, really like to know how long it will take for me to get a work permit. In these few months, my status (that I've been checking online) has not changed.
I searched this forum for similar requests, and found that the forum Moderator typically tells these posters to call the IRCC call center to inquire about their specific case. However, my inquiry would not fit any of the requirements listed on the IRCC website for what merits a call to the call center.
Is there any other information available about how long open work permit applications take to process when they were submitted with PR applications from within Canada?
Thank you very much for your time and help. Looking forward to your reply.
1. The processing time for a SWOP with an In-Canada application is 4 months. |

Hi My mother came Canada in 2012 on PR and left after 6 months. Now she came back this month but her PR is expiring in May 2017.
Can she stay after May 2017 or she has to leave Canada.
She hasn't stayed 2 years in 5 years so I don't know she can apply for renewal.
If she don't apply for renewal, will her status after May 2017 be illegal?
Appreciate your help.
Thanks
1. She can stay. She should not apply to extend her PR card until she has 2 years residing in Canada during the last 5 years, in her case January 2019 |

I'm planning to send my application for sponsorship this month. I'm scared that if I apply for sponsorship and I'm under EI maybe the government will refuse my sponsorship. Please I need answer and help. Hoping you have any Idea. Thank you
1. No, it doesn't. There is no MINI required for spousal sponsorships. |

I came via Express Entry via CEC. No PNP program. I am looking for IT jobs (NOC 2173).
-->So with the above info can I confirm that although my COPR document contains Vancouver as destination city, I can land anywhere in Canada including Quebec? Or do I need land in Toronto , complete the process and then move to Quebec PLease confirm
Moderator wrote:
Hello,
1. Don't try "landing" in Quebec, without a CSQ you could be refused. Don't give a Quebec address for your PR card either. 2. You can "land" where ever else you want and then move to Quebec. You may find that you are ineligible for some benefits given to new emigrants to Quebec though. |

1. You could only sponsor them, if you are single, your parents/grandparents are deceased, you don't have any children in Canada, nor a Brother/Sister/Aunt/Uncle/Nephew/Niece residing in Canada. 2. Start your reading here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/relatives-apply-who.asp |

Hello there,
Thank you for sharing your question with us.
The following information comes directly from the IRCC article entitled "Can I leave and come back to Canada if I have a work permit?"
Generally, yes. To return to Canada to work, you will need a:
- a valid passport or travel document;
- a valid work permit if you are returning to work in Canada;
- a valid visitor visa, if you are a citizen of a visa-required country. You must re-apply for a temporary resident visa (visitor visa) if:
- your visa has expired; or
- your visa was only valid for a single entry to Canada.
- an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country and plan to return to Canada by air. You will not be able to board your flight without one.
- If you received an initial study permit before August 1, 2015, you will need to apply for an eTA.
- If you received an initial study permit on or after August 1, 2015, you will automatically be issued an eTA along with your permit.
- When you renew your work permit, an eTA is not automatically renewed or issued. You may need to apply for one separately. See Extend your work permit.
A border officer will have some questions for you when you arrive back in Canada. If the officer believes there is reason to refuse your re-entry, you will not be able to re-enter Canada.
As their website suggests, you need to consider when your work permit was issued before considering applying for an eTA.
If you have any questions please contact the IRCC Call Centre line directly at 1-888-242-2100.
===== Your Settlement.org team
1. The OP is a Venezuelan citizen, therefor s/he requires a TRV to enter Canada, an ETA doesn't enter into it. 2. As s/he has a valid work permit in Canada s/he can apply for a TRV in Canada by following these instructions:http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp 3. You use the package for applicants in Canada: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp?countrySelect=CA#applications you also can apply on line. |

PR Travel Document Issues

I'm a US citizen and married my cdn husband in Canada in 1989. We started the application for PR Status not long after and before we heard anything from immigration we ended up moving back to the US and did not notify Canada immigration so were unaware if I was ever approved.
I have no documentation except a copy of a temporary Social Insurance card and I do have my passport from that time that references a file number. We are trying to come back to retire in Canada and have already purchased a house so we began the permanent residency application over from scratch. I received an email from immigration stating The records indicated I had previously entered Canada as a permanent residence and to apply to a PR travel document.
My problem is that I do not have my record of landing number to list on my application. I was wondering if it could be possible that since I have been with my husband (a Canadian Citizen) in the US for the last 28 years could it be possible that I would still have my PR status from that long ago? Should I just include a letter of explaination about why I do not have information about the 1st application?
If anyone can offer some information I would apprecite it. I plan on applying for the travel document and they also have my completed PR application which is being held until a determination is made about my previous status. I am a little concerned because we did not list this previous sponsorship on my new application because we never thought it went through and there was no intended deception.
Thank you for your time and sorry for the long post. Just wondered if anyone else had this same experience and what may have happened in their case! We are anxious to move to our new house and begin our life there! I love Canada!
1. The question is did you "land"? If you did, then you are still a PR as you have been residing abroad with a Canadian citizen. You don't require a PRTD. 2. You can apply for Verification of Entry, the instructions are at www.cic.gc.ca, but it takes 6 months. 3, If you never "landed" i.e. received an Immigration IMM 1000, it would have been either grey cardboard strip or a yellow piece of paper, depending on the year, your spouse will have to sponsor you. |

I am a Canadian citizen, and I married my husband in 2014 who is not a Canadian citizen. He got his PR card October 2015. However we had to move to the Caribbean because I am studying medicine at a university that is offshore, but accredited, and recognized by Canada. Approved by Canada for loans. Would his time with me here count towards his residency days?
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
1, Yes time spent accompanying a Canadian citizen abroad counts for RO for Permanent Resident |

Kindly advice
if CBSA have any issue on this as Saskatoon city is also in the same province from where I was nominated. or I must have to land in the same city which is mentioned in COPR. or I would land in any mis-interpretation issue.
Looking forward for your kind support.

1. Yes, you can but I doubt you will find any direct international flights to Saskatoon. |
