How to show Proof for Auto Insurance?

I applied for auto insurance and they asked when I got my first license. I said it was 1988 or 1989 and they said they want proof, but the office in my home country just scratched its head when I called and said I needed some sort of proof. No computerized records prior to 1994 exist, they said.
Is this reasonable, that an insurance company in Canada can charge more if I can't prove I'm old? :-) I mean, how do immigrants prove this? |
