Can children on visitor visa attend school?

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your question with us. We appreciate your interest in this information.
You may find information regarding this situation in the Settlement.Org article: How do I enrol my child in school?
Can enrollment be denied?
It is important to know that all children aged 6-18 can and must attend school, regardless of their immigration status or the immigration status of their parents. This is outlined in the Education Act, the law that governs public schools in Ontario: "A person who is otherwise entitled to be admitted to a school and who is less than eighteen years of age shall not be refused admission because the person or the person's parent or guardian is unlawfully in Canada."
It is also important to note that minor children of refugee protection claimants and protected persons do not require a study permit to attend kindergarten, elementary or secondary school.
This means that children aged 6-18 are required to go to school, and schools cannot deny enrollment based on the immigration status of the children or their parents. If you'd like to report this to the ministry of education, you can find their contact information on their website or call 416-325-2929.
You may also want to dial 211 and speak to an Information and Referral Specialist to see if they can provide some information regarding settlement services and options in your area to speak with a settlement counsellor about getting support with enrolling your nieces and nephews in school.
211 is a free, confidential service available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
We hope this information is helpful.
Sincerely,

Lost Renewed PR Card in mail

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us.
You can find helpful information on the application process in IRCC's guide "Solemn Declaration Concerning a Lost, Stolen, Destroyed or Never-Received Permanent Resident Card". It is a separate application, and IRCC has a webpage dedicated to processing times for immigration applications. As of today, the typical wait time is 50 days for this application. Urgent processing is available, if you need your PR card urgently, follow these instructions.
If you are leaving Canada in less than 3 weeks, and already applied for your PR card but won't recieve it before you leave, IRCC suggests:
We can’t process a PR card application in less than three weeks. Once you’re outside Canada submit a PRTD application to the nearest visa application centre. If your return flight to Canada is in less than six weeks:
- mark your application “urgent”
- provide your travel dates and flight itinerary when applying
A PRTD will let you re-enter Canada if you don’t have a PR card. Without a PR card or a PRTD, you won’t be able to travel to Canada except by private vehicle.
Learn more about what happens after you apply for a PRTD.
It is still best that you contact the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) directly for advice specific to your case and situation and for information about processing time for urgent applications, there is no guarantee - but IRCC may be able to provide you with a better estimate. You can contact them here: 1-888-242-2100 (In Canada Only) or by web form.
We hope this information is helpful. Please follow up with us if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,

eTA required?
Moderator

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your question and situation with us, we appreciate your interest in this information.
Summary: It is our understanding that you should not need an eTA if you are approved for permanent residence, as an eFoil will be automatically issued to you, serving as a replacement for the eTA.
Explanation:
According to the Canada Border Services Agency: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trans/guide-eng.html#s4b
Foreign nationals from visa-required countries will be issued a PR Visa to allow them to board their flight to Canada.
Foreign nationals from eTA countries will be issued a document called an eFoil (it’s like an eTA email) that will allow them to board their flight to Canada.
In addition to the PR visa counterfoil or eFoil, a foreign national travelling to Canada to become a PR must also have a passport, other than a diplomatic, official or similar passport, that was issued by the country of which the foreign national is a citizen or national.
We hope this information is helpful. You may also wish to consult a reputable and registered immigration consultant or an immigration lawyer who is familiar with Canadian immigration issues for advice on your situation, and please let us know if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Your Settlement.Org team
