Hello,
Thank you for sharing your question with us.
Generally, if you are going to be outside Canada or Ontario for more than 6 months, in order to maintain your OHIP coverage, you are required to meet specific requirements. This applies to certain situations and cases.
You can find some information on the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care website here:
You may be out of the province for up to 212 days in any 12-month period and still maintain your Ontario health insurance coverage provided that you continue to make Ontario your primary place of residence.
To maintain eligibility for OHIP coverage you must be an eligible resident of Ontario. This means that you must :
-have an OHIP-eligible citizenship/immigration status; and -be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period; and -be physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province; and -make your primary place of residence in Ontario.
You can also find information in the Longer Absences section.
You may also want to the ServiceOntario INFOline directly for information specific to your situation here:
Toll-free: 1-888-376-5197, 416-314-5518 (Toronto only) TTY toll-free: 1-800-387-5559 Core Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm

17 Years Old - Do I need a Guarantor?

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.
If you are referring to a legal guardian in order to enter school, you can find some detailed information in this Admission Eligibility Requirements document.
Here is an excerpt,
-Students who are 16 or 17 years of age and who have withdrawn from parental control may register without a parent or guardian being resident in the City of Toronto.
Withdrawal from parental control means that the young person is self-sufficient, and is not reliant on either parent or on a legal guardian.
-Occasionally, at the time of school registration, a student under 18 years may be residing with an adult who is neither his/her parent nor legal guardian, as a result of family disruption or other extenuating circumstances.
The principal has the discretion to allow such a student to register in the school while legal guardianship arrangements are being made, and to monitor the progress of those arrangements until completion.
The principal may refer exceptional cases to the superintendent of schools for decision.
Failure to complete the arrangements in a timely way may result in the student being demitted from the school.
You may want to contact the School Board of the school you will be attending directly for information specific to your situation.
You can also find some helpful information on this NewYouth.ca website.
NewYouth.ca is your first link for accurate, accessible and easy-to-understand information about issues important to newcomer youth and young Canadians.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

When Exactly to Apply for PR Card Renewal
Moderator
|
Hello,
Thanks for sharing your situation and question with us. We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this situation.
Your User ID indicates that you are in Mississauga.
In terms of trying to renew your PR card when you have not met your residency requirements, you can find some very detailed information on this in the the CIC ENF 27 Permanent Resident Card Operations Manual, in the 8.7. Procedures for special referral situations - Discrepancies in residency obligations. Here is an excerpt,
Discrepancies in residency obligations
If the PR card applicant does not appear to meet the residency requirement (e.g.,following an examination of the passport and travel history, input from the visa office, etc.) and insufficient H&C grounds are identified to overcome this shortfall, the officer writes a report under A44(1). The report goes to a Minister’s delegate, who may issue a removal order under A44(2). If the PR card applicant is inadmissible on grounds other than residency, the case will be assessed by the Minister’s delegate and referred to the Immigration Division. During this time, the applicant is still entitled to a one-year card, where there is no final disposition on the case whether it is at the report stage, the admissibility hearing stage or the removal stage. Similarly, if the PR card applicant is the subject of a negative determination under A46(1)(b), where there is no final disposition, the client is also entitled to a one-year card.
Pending or unresolved A27/A44 reports
The CPC-PRC contacts the CIC where the report originated. If there is no response after seven days and the report is over five years old, the application is processed and a five year card is issued. If there is no response and the report is less than five years old, a one-year card is issued.
It is also important to note that you cannot apply to renew a PR card from outside Canada.
According to the ENF 27 Permanent Resident Card manual,
R56(2) states clearly that a PR card application must be made in Canada.[...]The CPC may refer a case to a local CIC if all or part of the application originated from outside Canada, and if there are questions as to the client’s identity, status or residency history, or the authenticity of the documentation. Clients must report in person to pick up their card in Canada, in accordance with R58(3). Some of our users have reported that they have been able to contact CIC recently from abroad by dialing 1 613 944 4000. Listen to the options to get to CIC.
Long distance charges will apply.
Trying to present H&C grounds related to permanent residency can be complicated. We suggest that you may also want to contact a lawyer who is familiar with Canadian immigration issues for some assistance.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello Usman,
Under the changes to the Citizenship Act, you must prove that you “intend to reside” in Canada. Once you are eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship, this is one of the requirements that you will have to meet.
It is best that you contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre directly for some information regarding your situation.
Regarding CCTB you can find some eligibility information on the Canada Revenue Agency website.
Here is an excerpt.
4. Can I get the Canada child tax benefit? To be eligible, you must meet all the following conditions:
-you must live with the child, and the child must be under the age of 18; -you must be primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of the child; -you must be a resident of Canada; and -you or your spouse or common-law partner must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a protected person, or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada for the previous 18 months, and who has a valid permit in the 19th month.
It also states,
b) If your spouse or common-law partner is a non-resident of Canada during any part of the year, you must complete Form CTB9, Canada Child Tax Benefit - Statement of Income for each year or part of a year he or she is a non-resident of Canada.
You should contact the Universal child care benefit, Canada child tax benefit line directly at:
1-800-387-1193 (Canada and United States)
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
