Hello everyone
My ex-wife left the country a year ago with my two daughters 5 and 7 y.o. She's contacting me asking if she is still entitled to receive Canada child benefits for the kids. Is she entitled even though she is abroad? I haven't find specific info for this case.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm planning on a 3 week vacation trip in January 2019.
I plan to return to Canada Jan 25th. My PR card expires Feb 2019.
Will I be still be able to fly back home after which I'll promptly apply to renew my PR card.
1. Yes, but why don't you renew it prior to it's expiry? You can apply 6 months before it expires and the processing time is 99 days, and you only have to send a photocopy of your present PR card. |

If I am a landed immigrant in Canada for about 40 years and I am waiting for a my permanent residence card When I travel what documents do I need to enter back into the country?
Is my Landed Immigration Identification Record paper enough?
1. No, unless you are traveling via a land border from the US in a private vehicle, otherwise you will either have to obtain a Permanent Resident Travel document from an overseas office before you would be allowed to board your flight. |

Hello Don,
Thank you for sharing your aunt's situation with us.
We can appreciate that she would be interested in this type of information.
You can find some detailed information regarding eligibility for Old Age Security (OAS) on the Government of Canada website.
Here is an excerpt,
If you are living outside Canada, you must:
-be 65 years old or older; -have been a Canadian citizen or a legal resident of Canada on the day before you left Canada; and -have resided in Canada for at least 20 years since the age of 18.
You may also want to contact them directly for some information specific to your aunt's situation.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

1. If my math is correct, the OP's Aunt left Canada when she was 27 so would not have 20 years residence after the age of 18, so not eligible while living abroad
If you are living in Canada, you must: - be 65 years old or older;
- be a Canadian citizen or a legal resident at the time we approve your OAS pension application; and
- have resided in Canada for at least 10 years since the age of 18.
If you are living outside Canada, you must: - be 65 years old or older;
- have been a Canadian citizen or a legal resident of Canada on the day before you left Canada; and
- have resided in Canada for at least 20 years since the age of 18.
If neither of the above scenarios applies to you, you may still qualify for an OAS pension, a pension from another country or from both countries if you have: - lived in one of the countries with which Canada has established a social security agreement; or
- contributed to the social security system of one of the countries with which Canada has established a social security agreement.
2. It is possible that she maybe eligible for a combined US Social Security pension with a small portion of OAS from Canada. You have to start your research here: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/publicpensions/cpp/cpp-international/united-states.html |

Hello,
I Would appreciate any input regarding my inquiry, it is a little out of the norm, so any help is appreciated.
Im Currently a PR card holder, i was wondering if i was to work in the United stated, specifically Michigan on a J1 scholar visa (research assistant), while residing in Windsor and commuting daily, meaning i will sleep in Windsor and return to it daily. Will those days count towards my 1095 days of physical presence in order to quality for Citizenship Grant ?
1. Yes they would count as 1 day for every night you "sleep" in Canada, your work would be considered "day trips" to the US, you will have to keep track of them though. |

1. As the children are NOT emigrating the form is not required. If the Mother had custody of the children and the children were emigrating, then the mother would have to complete the form. |

Dear Anna,
Me again.
I have reached out to my "employer" asking him to enquire directly with Canada Service but the latter confirmed quoting "Indeed an employer may validate the SIN number when the employee supplies the actual number and therefore able to validate it vis a vis Service Canada". So I am in an administrative "cul-de-sac" unable to retrieve directly my SIN with Canada Service and/or through my Employer. It seems I have no option but to wait another "x" weeks/months to have my PR card renewed by IRCC Nova Scotia then go to (re)apply for a SIN.
Best
Romain
1. Did you ever file an income tax in Canada? If so your SIN number is on it. |

Then lived again in Philippines for 1-2yrs.
Will my PR status expires? Thank you
1. The processing time for the initial PR card is 58 days plus mailing time (at the present time, it can vary}\ 2. To maintain your PR Status you must reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 year period. |

1/ It is extremely unlikely that the Call centre will know if the pictures are received or not. The OP should have sent them via courier if s/he wanted to know when they were received. |

Child was born in Canada. We are applying for Indian passport.
I know any one born in canada is the citizen of canada , but in this case, he does not have canadian passport.
When he travels to India and re-enters back to Canada , what documents are required upon re-entry or to board the plane.?
Can we get any travel permit etc and how?
Thank you,
1. He will require a Canadian passport. See: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta/facts.html
Travellers who cannot apply for an eTA and need to carry other identification:- Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, need a valid Canadian passport. American-Canadians can travel with a valid Canadian or U.S. passport.

Incorrect Info on original application - now what?

Hi,
My fiance's family paid a local lawyer to fill out his original study permit application. We are about to apply for spousal sponsorship and so he pulled out the original docs to make sure it all matched. Turns out the guys put complete lies under his family info. It has one who isnt a relative, his two sisters birthdays are decades wrong, and its missing lots of people.
What do we do? Keep it consistent even though its incorrect? Correct it? And, if we do offer an explanation or just hope its unnoticed?
Applying from within Canada. He's from an East African Country. Have about 2 months, getting married next month. Just had a baby and so we really dont want to risk anything going wrong :(.
Thank you!!
1. If you don't correct it in a new application, it is called "misrepresentation" and results in a 5 year ban from Canada. 2. As he signed the original application, certifying all the information was correct, he is going to have difficulty convincing IRCC that it was all the consultants fault. Be prepared for a long and torturous application. You will need a letter of explanation with the sponsorship application. |

PR card Replacement

Hi

Hello, I landed in Canada in March as a PR.
Everything was processed my maiden name up till I landed here.
My PR card is also in my maiden name which I have received. I changed my name in my Indian passport to my married name where we take our husbands first name as our middle name and his last name as our last name per Hindu traditions. But I am traveling to India in December. I have applied for a new PR replacement card following the name change on my Indian passport. I sent the application IM5444 along with copy of my current PR (which is under my maiden name) my marriage license (coming from the US) my copy of my new passport that reflects my name change, and other supporting documents. But those are the main ones.
Can you please provide me if they actually do accept those documents and change the name on the PR without going through any name change certificate which is stated by the Ontario government.
If in case, it doesn’t go through how can I Travel back from India to Canada if my PR card has my maiden name and my passport has my married name. I still have old passport with my maiden name attached to the new one but it is cancelled as I was issued a new passport.
For example: Aaaaa Bbbb cccc is my maiden name. My husband name is Ddddd eeeee fffff so I took his middle name and last name and now my new married name is Aaaaa Dddddd Ffffff. This is just an example.
Please help me with this.
1. If you don't get a new PR card in time, just carry your old PR card, the old passport, the new one and a copy of your marriage certificate which will show the name changes. |
