Sponsorship - COPR not received for Child
PMM
|
Hi
We live in Toronto and have submit the sponsorship application for our dependent child. We came to know through CIC that our sponsorship application was accepted and COPR will be send for my child. After few months when we dint hear anything, we inquire and were told that COPR for my child was already sent. However, we did not receive the COPR, we are contently calling CIC and emailing the processing center. it has been more than a year and still we are without the COPR document and without any guidelines from CIC on how to proceed further. every time we call, they will say we will make a not and will escalate it to the case processing center. Any one know what to do or have been in similar condition? please let us know.
Also, does anyone know if there is a date constraint on COPR if yes, then for how long it usually valid and how should we get a valid replacement COPR for my child ?
Regards
1. Since sponsorships for dependent children are not processed in Canada, you would have sent your sponsorship/application to Mississauga, it probably was sent to Ottawa (considered overseas office for some applications) or one of the US offices. 2. The COPR is only valid for a year after the date of the medical. 3. If you feel the COPR was lost, then start here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=045&top=12

COPR/Visa Name Error - Will Be Corrected at POE?
PMM
|
HI
Hi
Hello all
Although I sent my passport, they made an error in my name (switched first and last name) on the visa and CoPR.
Because of time constraint I already made my travel arrangements to land in mid April and do not have time to get it corrected. I have couple of questions which are as follows:
1. How critical is it to get the error corrected? CoPR and visa are just temporary documents.
2. When I land in mid April, can I send the correction forms along with the forms that the IO prepares so that they can get my correct name on the PR card?
Any reply is appreciated. Thank you
1. You have to get it corrected before you leave, it can't be corrected at the Port of Entry, the reversal of the name is a major problem. 2. The COPR is not a temporary document, you will need to keep it safe, as you will need it when it comes time to apply for your Old age pension. 3. Your PR card, would be issued in exactly the same name that is on your COPR.
PMM
Thank you PMM for the response. Sorry, I was not clear on what I was asking. My passport does not have Surname(Last name) but only given (first) name. I got my visa/CoPR and they have used my given(first) name as Family name and left Given name blank. Its the same thing in my US visa, Given Name is FNU(first name unknown) and Surname is my given name in my passport.
Is this an error that i need to get corrected or that's how it's done in North America? I am planning to enter Canada in mid April. Please advise on what I need to do. Your response is appreciated.
Thank you
1. If you don't have a surname, your given name will be in the surname box on the COPR and the given name will be blank, the same for your PR card. So you don't have to do anything.
2. Your original posted stated that your surname and given name were reversed, so I gave you a response to that question. You never said you didn't have a surname.

Completing Forms before Landing
PMM
|
Hi
Hello all
I was wondering if there are any other forms apart from B4 and B4A forms that we need to fill out when we land in Canada?
And is it better to fill out those forms before landing?
Thank you
1. Just the B4 and B4A and they goods to follow at least should be completed before you arrive. It doesn't hurt to complete both before you arrive.

PR card Expiring-How to leave Canada and Return?
PMM

Hi
My mothers PR is expiring and she wants to travel outside canada and she would only have 1 month before the PR expires and she wants to stay longer because she is going to vist her mother and she has 3 kids and for us to travel its costing us a lot of money for tickets and its not worth the amount of time we are staying there for and the time we are staying outside the country we have ramadan
Is there anyway she can travel outside the country when her pr is about to expiring and come back ?
1. She would have to apply for a PR Travel Document at an office abroad to return to Canada. Depending on the office, and she meets her RO, processing time is 1 to 2 weeks. 2, Depending on when she intends to leave, she could apply for a new PR card with urgent processing: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-urgent-processing.asp

Canadian Father - How can I get Citizenship?
PMM
|
Hi
My Father is Canadian and I am German.
How can I get a Canadian citizenship?
1. Not sufficient information. 2. If you father was a Canada citizen at the time of your birth, and he received citizenship through either birth or naturalization, then you are a citizen and only need to apply for proof of citizenship: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp 3. If he was not a citizen at the time your birth, you are not eligible. 4. If he received his citizenship through descent before you were born, then you may or may not be a citizen see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules/index.asp

Hey, I am 16 years old and I have got the Permanent Resident Card.
I was wondering if I stayed in Canada for 4 years from now onward, will I become a Canadian Citizenship or do I have to stay the 4 whole years after my 18th birthday keeping in mind that no adults (parents or a guardian) will be staying with me except my 20 years old sister.
So briefly, my question is WIll those 2 years count or not?
1. Yes, you can apply for citizenship after you meet the requirements. The years prior to age 18 count as well. |

Thank you so much for your reply. Just one more thing I would like to be clarified.
Since his wife is a PR and his child is a citizen, I am thr only relative he has left in Canada that could be sponsored. What would hinder him from sponsoring me?
1. No, his wife and child are relatives and they are in Canada. |

What if my sister had applied for a Canadian Citizenship and got accepted but I have been out of Canada so I haven't really completed the set of rules to be completed before applying, would I get to apply for the Citizenship due to the fact my older sibling has completed them all?
1. No, you have to meet the residency requirements for citizenship on your own, unless you are a minor (under 18) and one of your parents is applying for citizenship or is already a citizen. You have to be residing in Canada. |

Hello, As I am new immigrant to Canada, would like to know how to apply for a first new PR card.
1. It would have been processed by the officer at the time you "landed" as a permanent resident. The processing time is posted as 59 days. It will be mailed to the address you gave to CBSA when you "landed" |

Hi,
I landed in Toronto on May 2, 2016 for my PR using the COPR and the immigrant visa. I had to leave for work few days later. I have a valid business visa. I am travelling to Canada soon for work reasons. Can I enter on business visa and pick-up my PR card whilst there, or do I have to get a PRTD ?
When the immigration officer cancelled by immigrant visa upon landing (in May), I asked him if the business visa will become void as I am becoming a PR. His response was that it doesn't become void.
I would appreciate some clarity on this issue. Thank you
1. No, your business became invalid once you "landed". You will need a PRTD. 2. The officer was wrong or you misunderstood him. The business visa is non PRs , you are now a PR. |

MY question is for how long I can stay out of Canada?
Can I go for 13 months altogether or have to come back after every 6 month to maintain my PR status?
1. To maintain your PR status you must reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 year period, the time doesn't have to be consecutive. |

What do I need to do?
Thanks
1. It depends, if you are citizen of the US Visitor Visa waiver countries, see: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/visit/visa-waiver-program.html then you need only to apply for an "ESTA" otherwise you will need to apply and obtain a US visitor visa. |
