Open Work Permit Question

Hi there.
I'm italian I'm married to a PR holder.
Me and my wife got married the 26 of February. At that time I had no status in Canada. After the marriage we decided to go to Italy so i could introduce her to my family. Now we are planning to come back to Canada and I want to apply for a work permit, sponsorship and permanent resident.
My question is is there a way for me to apply for a OWP at the border since my wife is a PR? If not how long does it take to obtain a work permit from when I apply in land?
What could I do to support my wife while waiting for the PR?
1. No, if you are admitted (you know that you require an ETA to return to Canada by Air?) you would include a request for an OWP with the "in Canada" spousal application. The processing time is 4 months. 2. Well you can't work until you receive the OWP. |

1/ It would appear not, for a family of 7 your family + parents you would require the following income for the previous 3 years.
Minimum Income 2016 Minimum Income 2015 Minimum Income 2014
7 persons $83,695 | $82,091 | $81,355 |

Consequences of Getting a Divorce - Leave Country?

Hello, I just have a simple question. If I get divorce within the first 2 years of my marriage do I lose my PR status? When I landed the border official told me that i had to live at least 2 years in the same place to keep my PR status. Do I have to leave everything and go back to my country? Is there any posibility of avoiding that if that's the case? Thank you.
1. No, the two year co-habitation rule was cancelled in June. 2. The only hiccup might be if the sponsor reports to CBSA that it was a marriage of convenience. i.e. you married the sponsor just to get status in Canada. |

Eligible to Apply for Citizenship?

Hi

Hello,
We have a question for you and we hope that you can help us.
We moved to Canada (Vancouver) on February 1st, 2010. with the Permanent Resident status. Unfortunately we had to go back to Europe twice since, and we are still in Europe. We recently found out about the changes in Citizenship Law, and we are very interested to see if we are at all eligible to apply. According to the calculator at your web site we are eligible (once all the law changes apply in Fall 2017), but still, we would like to check couple of details with you, that we are not certain about and gives us a bit of concern.
So, we moved to Canada on February 1st 2010, and went back to Europe on January 28, 2012. On March 27, 2013 we came back to Canada, and then on September 24, 2014. again we had to go back to Europe. Since then, we are still in Europe.
I understand that we do have required 3 years out of 5, but depending on what 5 years you are looking at.
Could you please help in determining if we have any chance at all to apply for Canadian citizenship.
Thank you in advance and hope to hear from you soon.
1. Citizenship is not going to be your problem , The Permanent residency obligation is going to be a problem. To maintain your PR status you have to reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 year period. Since August 2nd 2012 to August 2nd 2017 you have only resided in Canada 545 days which is less than the 730 days required. So you haven't maintained your PR status, and it is quite likely that you would be reported on entry to Canada. |

Sponsored Parents Applying for OAS

Hi, both my parents just landed this year.
I am under the immigration new rule of 20 years undertaking for their financial needs, not the old 10 years.
I have heard that now they have to live in canada for 20 years in order to apply for OAS.
However, the immigration website still says 10 years. Can someone please clarify this for me please?
Thanks.
1. OAS is not welfare. Once your parents have resided in Canada for 10 years, they would be eligible for 10/40ths of OAS or about $142.00 per month at todays rate. |

1. Apply for a new PR card: (assuming it is PR card you can't find) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-how.asp 2. If you is COPR, apply for Verification of status http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certcopy.asp |

What is the 45 days and 49 days for? To me both seem to be for renewal of PR card. Please clarify
"Generally, it takes about 45 days to process PR cards for new permanent residents once IRCC receives a complete application package from individuals who have fulfilled their residency requirements. Applications for renewed PR Cards generally take 49 days."
1. 61 days for first PR card 2. 69 days for renewal

Thanks for your response, we will keep trying to sort things out. I appreciate you taking the time.
1. Your step mother is a permanent resident (landed immigrant) from the information that you gave, not a Canadian citizen. Immaterial that she never got a permanent resident card. 2. If she has been accompanying your father overseas, then she has never lost her PR status. She would have to apply for a PR Travel Document at the overseas office with proof that she has accompanied a Canadian citizen spouse overseas. 3. If she hasn't been accompanying your father, then she would have to renounce her PR status to obtain an ETA. |

Hi, I am currently a permanent resident of Canada and i have been since March 2014. I have accumulated about 3 years in Canada since I got my PR.
I am currently in Macedonia, and i have been here the past 2 months, and I need to stay here longer than 6 months but shorter than a year.
Is that possible and will that affect my permanent residency in any way?
1. It shouldn't. You have to reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 year period. |

1. Only if she is under 18 and an orphan, or you are alone in Canada, not married have no children, your parents/grandparents are deceased and you don't have brother/sister/aunt/uncle/niece/nephew in Canada. If you meet that criteria, then see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/relatives.asp |

Good day all,
In the process of applying for Canada citizenship for which I have started filling the online provided, originally savable/editable PDF forms marked with "CIT 0002 (06-2017) E", only to realize today that there have been another/new version marked: "CIT 0002 (08-2017) E" and now its no longer savable/editable but must be filled and printed at once, questions:
1) Aren't they identically the same? 2) Since they're the same, couldn't I continue on using the the older version "CIT 0002 (06-2017) E", print and submit it once complete? 3) There are conflicting ID photos requirements; "The frame size must be at least 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8″ x 1 3/4″)" and "The frame size must be 50 mm x 70 mm (2″ x 2 ¾″).", which is the current/correct one?
Any input you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. G.
1. YOu have to use the latest forms and the new photo instructions. If you don't, your application will be returned as incomplete and not processed. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/photospecs-cit.asp |

1. If they were not "examined", then they can't be sponsored. 2. They can submit an application under 25.1 of the Act, Humanitarian and Compassionate, with your support, but most are not approved. YOu would have to prove custody with the ability to remove them from their country of citizen |
