Driver's Licensing - Ontario

Moderator
Moderator
Hello,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

You can find some detailed information in the What happens if I’ve let my driver’s licence expire? section of the ServiceOntario website.

Here is an excerpt,

Novice licences include G1, G2, M1, M2, M1-L and M2-L licences and in most cases, you cannot renew these licences if they expire. If your novice licence has expired you must reapply as a new driver and pass all the required tests (vision, written and road tests).

Approximately 6 months before your novice licence will expire; you will be mailed a notice of novice driver's licence. The notice will detail the level of licence you have achieved and what will happen if your novice licence expires.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your daughter's situation and question with us.

We can appreciate that you would be very concerned about this situation.

It is best that you or your daughter contact the nearest Community Legal Clinic for some advice.

You mentioned that she is in the Ottawa area. You can find the nearest Community Legal Clinic here.

You can also find some additional information on new changes to the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) that allow a tenant to break a lease in situations of violence or abuse in this article posted on the YourLegalRights.on.ca website.

However, as stated in the article, generally, it applies in the following circumstances:

The lease may be broken if the tenant or the tenant’s child has experienced or is experiencing any of the above types of violence or abuse by one of the following:

- a spouse or former spouse;
- a person living with the tenant in a conjugal relationship outside marriage;
- a person who the tenant is or was dating; or
- a person who lives with the tenant and is related by blood, marriage or adoption to the tenant or a child who lives with the tenant.

As it may not apply in the situation you have mentioned, it is important that you or your daughter contact the nearest Community Legal Clinic for some advice.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Moving from Ottawa to Toronto

Hello Melanie,

Thank you for sharing your situation and question with us.

If you are not landing under a Provincial Nominee Program from another province or unless you are otherwise legally restricted (bail, bond, etc.), you can move to any city or province in Canada and live wherever you wish.

However, if you decide to move to Quebec, as a new immigrant you may not have access to some of the Quebec-funded services for immigrants that come to that province via their provincial selection process.

Canadian Permanent Residents have full mobility rights.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
